Veli-Ville Sivén on Helsingissä asuva skenografi, muusikko ja mediataiteilija. Hän on valmistunut Taideyliopistosta teatteritaiteen maisteriksi. Sivénin tarkasti visualisoimia näyttämöteoksia on nähty pääsääntöisesti Suomessa kaupunginteattereissa ja vapaissa rakenteissa, mutta myös Saksassa ja Skotlannissa valon, lavastuksen ja videon muodossa nykyteatterista tanssiin.

Hän on tehnyt musiikkia niin teatteriesityksiin ja vaikuttanut myös undeground maailman bändikokoonpanoissa, kuten Eleanoora Rosenholm tai PWR NAP. Valo- ja mediataiteilijana Sivén on tehnyt teoksia ryhmänäyttelyihin tai tapahtumiin, ja häneltä nähtiin ensimmäinen soolonäyttely Squares and Chairs vuonna 2024.

Sivén palkittiin Valosäde-palkinnolla Tove Teuvalla Oopperasta vuonna 2024. Lisäksi hän on perustanut yhdessä teatteriohjaaja Joel Härkösen kanssa redukt_ taidekollektiivin ja studion, ja he ovat luoneet nykyteatterin taiteellista menetelmää, jota he kutsuvat “oikeesti tekemiseksi”.

Työssään hän on erityisen kiinnostunut esityksellisyyden ja kokemuksellisuuden risteymistä ja hän on perehtynyt muun muassa kuvataiteen modernismiin, nykyteatteriin, psykoanalyysiin ja John Deweyn kokemusfilosofiaan.

Biografia

Veli-Ville Sivén is a scenographer, musician, and media artist based in Helsinki. He holds a Master of Arts degree in Theatre from the University of the Arts Helsinki. Sivén’s precisely visualized stage works have been seen mainly in Finland, both in city theatres and within the independent scene, as well as in Germany and Scotland — ranging from contemporary theatre to dance, through the mediums of light, set, and video design.

He has composed music for theatre productions and performed in underground band projects such as Eleanoora Rosenholm and PWR NAP. As a light and media artist, Sivén has created works for group exhibitions and events, and in 2024 he presented his first solo exhibition, Squares and Chairs.

Sivén received the Valosäde Award in 2024 for his lighting design in Tove Teuvalla Ooppera. He is also the co-founder, together with theatre director Joel Härkönen, of the redukt_ art collective and studio. Together they have developed an artistic approach to contemporary theatre they call “doing for real.”

In his work, Sivén is particularly interested in the intersection of performativity and experience. His research and artistic practice engage with modernism in visual art, contemporary theatre, psychoanalysis, and the experiential philosophy of John Dewey.
