ABOUT

Place to be is an immersive, site-specific installation that merges architectural scale, sculptural light, and multi-channel sound. Set within the brutalist, vacant expanse of a former department store, the installation transforms raw commercial space into a heightened environment. Rooted in the lineage of solid light art and volumetric cinema, the installation uses a precise interplay of light and haze to render a monumental light beam physically tangible—transforming it into a shifting, creature-like sculpture. Rather than a static gallery object, the work introduces a theatrical framing: as visitors enter the beam or retreat into the darkness, they are destabilized and repositioned. The viewer is simultaneously the observer and the performer within a living composition. Paired with a visceral drone score that resonates through the building's skeletal frame, the work functions as a collective phenomenon—a shared locus to exist quietly alone, together, and somewhere else.
